Reduce Pressure Wounds for Increased Patient Comfort with Air Fluidized Therapy

For decades, Air Fluidized Therapy (AFT) has been a trusted treatment option for complex and chronic wounds. By utilizing advanced air fluidization technology, AFT addresses pressure redistribution and moisture control, which are critical factors in treating Stage III and Stage IV pressure injuries. These therapeutic support surfaces help accelerate wound healing while preventing further skin breakdown, supporting faster recovery times, and promoting improved quality of life for patients with limited mobility.

CLINITRON® RITE-HITE® and CLINITRON® AT-HOME beds are clinically proven to minimize pressure sores and reduce friction and shear forces, providing effective long-term care for bedbound and high-risk patients.

      Air Fluidized Therapy Benefits

Air Fluidized Therapy beds, also commonly known as “sand beds,” are filled with silicone-coated microspheres that resemble fine white sand. Circulating warm air through these microspheres creates a dynamic, fluid-like environment that supports the patient’s body. This fluid support prevents the formation of pressure ulcers and accelerates wound healing by reducing mechanical stress from friction and shear. AFT’s varying airflow rates also prevent bacterial growth by controlling heat and humidity.

Traditional solid surfaces and standard air cushions only provide partial pressure relief. Air fluidized beds offer even pressure distribution across the patient’s entire body. The shoulders, heels, elbows, and other bony prominences are supported to prevent further tissue damage.
